We are a small and friendly Norwich-based chamber choir of around 25 singers and winners of the 2011 BBC Radio Norfolk Choir of the Year competition. We have a reputation for high quality performances at venues around Norfolk. Our repertoire is varied and extensive, but we specialise in Renaissance and contemporary music. We give around five concerts a year and also help to raise money for local charities. We have, to date, raised over £25,000.
HAYDN Missa Sancti Nicolai
BRITTEN Rejoice in the Lamb
RUTTER The Sprig of Thyme
The 1772 ‘Missa Sancti Nicolai’ brims with an energy and tunefulness typical of Haydn. It was written during his years as an employee of Prince Nicolaus Esterhazy, presumably in celebration of the Prince’s name day, the Feast of Saint Nicholas.
Britten wrote his Festival Cantata ‘Rejoice in the Lamb’ for the 50th anniversary of the consecration of St Matthews Church in Northampton. Its striking text is excerpted from ‘Jubilate Agno’ by the 18th century poet Christopher Smart, who wrote it whilst in an insane asylum.
John Rutter, who is seventy this year, has made a hugely significant contribution to British choral music. In ‘The Sprig of Thyme’ he brings together traditional songs from the British Isles in characteristically charming arrangements.
